Consular Section - Visa Services

Visa appointments are only made using our online visa appointment system located in the visa menu above. Please read the instructions first as they will answer most questions.  Emergency appointments may only be granted for serious emergencies.

Emergencies include:

• Medical or Family Emergency

• Student and Exchange Visitor Facilitation

• ESTA refusal (view refusal requirements)

Write to the consular section at consularmaputo@state.gov.  The subject of the email must be “Emergency Visa Appointment Request” or your request may not be processed in a timely manner.  In the email explain the nature of the family or medical emergency, or urgent travel.   You must provide documentation to support the urgency of your request. This documentation must be included in or attached to the email.

Please note that requesting an emergency appointment does not guarantee you will receive an emergency appointment.  You should still make an appointment through the online system for the next available date.

A lack of planning to obtain the proper visa in advance does not constitute an emergency. The risk of missing a booked flight or other travel arrangements is not a sufficient to be treated as an emergency case.
