United States Embassy Maputo, Mozambique
Message for U.S. Citizens: Consular Visit to Nampula
September 23, 2016

On October 17, the Consul from the US Embassy in Maputo will be visiting Nampula to provide consular services to US citizens in the northern provinces, in an effort to mitigate the difficulty and expense of traveling to the capital. Interested US citizens should come to the New Hotel, located at Av. Eduardo Mondlane from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. During this time the American community will have an opportunity to get to know Embassy representatives in an informal atmosphere, discuss a wide variety of topics of interest, and ask any questions about consular issues.

American Citizen Services provided will include acceptance of applications for passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, absentee voter registration, and notarial services. If you require consular services in any of these locations, please contact the Consular Section at ConsularMaputo@state.gov for more specific information about documents and forms you might need to make an application.

Anyone anticipating travel to or from South Africa should be aware of the documentary requirements which went into effect in June 2015 for minors under 18 years of age entering or exiting the country. All minors of any nationality will need to travel with an original or a certified copy of their unabridged birth certificate or Consular Report of Birth Abroad. In addition, if a minor is traveling without one or both of their parents/guardians, a notarized permission letter and certified copies of identity documents are required from the absent parent(s). Our consular team will have standard permission forms on hand for completion and notarization.
