Avenida Restrictions Lifted
February 27, 2006
The US Embassy in Mozambique is sending this Warden Message to inform American citizens that the Embassy has lifted the restrictions it imposed in December 2005 on official Americans’ use of the Hotel Avenida. The decision to lift these restrictions is due to measures taken by the hotel to improve security and a decrease in the incidents of reported crimes in the area along Avenida Julius Nyerere. The Embassy, however, continues to strongly discourage visitors from walking outside after dark, no matter where they are staying. Americans are reminded to always remain vigilant to the potential for crime in any part of the country and to take appropriate steps to ensure their personal safety.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Embassy if you have any questions:
