General Information

The Consular Section maintains a list of attorneys in Mozambique.  The Consular Office, however, is not permitted to advise Americans on legal matters or to recommend a particular lawyer.  The Consular Section provides services to Americans in distress, including visiting detainees in Mozambican custody, arranging financial assistance for Americans who are temporarily without money, providing information about physicians and hospitals, helping family members and friends in the United States locate and transmit information to American citizens believed to be in Mozambique, and handling the deaths of Americans abroad.

Can provide services of certified translator, court report, stenographer, and notary.  Handles criminal cases as well as adoptions, child custody, civil damages, estates, marriage/divorce, contracts, foreign claims, labor relations, auto accidents, narcotics, and theft/fraud/embezzlement.  Will take cases outside of Maputo. Has not yet represented any U.S. law firms or companies.

Includes incorporation and registration of companies, preparation of statutes, process of privatization, contract preparation and negotiation.  Member of the Interim Management Committee of the Mozambican Bar Association, clients include U.S.companies as well as Canadian, Australian, Portuguese and Mozambique.
