Defense Attache Office

The United States Defense Attaché Office (USDAO) represents the Departments of Defense (DoD), Army, Navy and Air Force. As official representatives of the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman - Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Military Service Secretaries, and Service Chiefs of Staff, USDAO Maputo is principally responsible for managing military relationships, coordinating military exchanges between the U.S. and Mozambique, and keeping the DoD informed on U.S./Mozambican military relations.

Current ongoing activities include the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR), the African Contingency Operations Training and Assistance (ACOTA) program, and other various Security Assistance and training programs.  USDAO Maputo manages the International Military Education Training (IMET) Program in Mozambique, which sends select officers back to the United States for advanced training on a wide variety of subjects.  Recent IMET training in 2006 included Advanced English Language Instructor Courses, Officer Leadership Development Courses, and a senior-level exchange visit with the Defense Institute for International Legal Studies.
