Civil Disturbance Update

February 8

The situation throughout the morning remains calm.  Maputo is returning to normal with many chapas now providing service.  Additionally, petrol stations are again operating.  AISM and other schools are expected to operate on a normal schedule.

Please note that although things are returning to normal, we recommend that U.S. citizens remain alert and attentive.  Negotiations between FEMATRO, the association which represents chapa drivers, and the Mozambican government have been extended until next Friday, February 15.  While it is hoped that an amicable solution is reached, the Embassy will continue to monitor the situation closely.

U.S. citizens are reminded to avoid any demonstrations or gatherings of people and to continue to monitor the Embassy's website for future updates.
