Charge’s Eid message
Salaam u-aleikum.
Millions of Muslims in the United States joined you in prayer and fasting during the month of Ramadan. As this month comes to an end and Eid-ul-Fitr begins, we join with you in hopes that the feelings of service to those in need, brotherhood, unity, and peace will continue to spread in Mozambique and the world. During Ramadan Muslims remember those less fortunate, through collecting and distributing zakat-ul-fitr, which is an example to all of us who care for those in need, regardless of our faith. We are proud that the United States, like Mozambique, is a nation of many religions with a long tradition of tolerance and religious freedom, a sentiment that is deeply woven into the fabric of American society.
It was a great honor for me and members of the American Embassy community to participate in an Iftaar this past week with hundreds of Muslim youth and community leaders. As I told them that night, they are the generation of future leaders who will help to shape their nation’s destiny.
The United States cherishes its relations with Muslims and Muslim nations around the world, and we want to strengthen those bonds and build on our mutual interests, based on mutual respect. Ramadan is an excellent time to remember our common humanity and the ties that bind us together. Learning from each other we can build bridges of mutual trust and understanding. Working together we can create a better future for all faiths.
We congratulate you and wish you all a blessed Eid-ul-Fitr.
